Darkening is an experimental video work, for which this is a draft idea, in which I am exploring ways to describe landscapes, designed to be projected large into a completely dark space to create an overwhelming, disconcerting, immersive experience, where the sound is bewildering and discomforting in volume and ambiguity. Passing through continental landscapes on the night train inspired me to try to convey the unnerving feeling of submitting to the journey, to the darkness, to the fabric of the train rattling and banging into strange silence. The duration is a disquieting, unsettling sense of the unknown; the proximity of strangers, the intrusion of border guards, the creeping anxieties, the glaring flashes of station lights.
