Footstool
colour HD video 2’19” with stereo sound, 2019
Location: Suffolk
‘In this brief action I stand on an old wooden footstool. The act is absurd, intimate and unobserved, but the challenge is personal and real, more personal ritual than performance. Can I achieve a one leg balance elevating myself on to the ball of my foot? The footstool is flimsy, with an insufficient structure to take my weight safely. The grave stone is hard and unyielding if I fall. It is important for me to capture myself on video in case I achieve this minor, petty success, and overcome the scars and weakness.’
