Footstool
Footstool
2019
Performance: sound
In this brief, self-filmed action she stands on an old wooden footstool. The act is absurd, intimate and unobserved, but the challenge is real; more personal ritual than performance. Can she achieve a one leg balance elevating herself on to the ball of her foot? The footstool is flimsy, with an insufficient structure to take her weight safely. The carved flagstone is hard and unyielding if she falls. It is important for her to capture herself on video in case she achieves this minor, petty success, and overcomes the scars and weaknesses.
