Footstool
Footstool
2019
Performance: sound
“In this brief, self-filmed action I stand on an old wooden footstool. The act is absurd, intimate and unobserved, but the challenge is personal and real, more personal ritual than performance. Can I achieve a one leg balance elevating myself on to the ball of my foot? The footstool is flimsy, with an insufficient structure to take my weight safely. The carved flagstone is hard and unyielding if I fall. It is important for me to capture myself on video in case I achieve this minor, petty success, and overcome the scars and weakness.”

Selected work on the theme of inner landscapes. Landscapes of mind and body, where the intangible is transformed into visceral, poetic narratives; diverse in form and content, both reflective and responsive, allowing humour and the absurd to interact with melancholy and disquiet; to shimmer briefly in your imagination.
