Untitled Tango
1993-2023
Performance; dance; sound; writing
The dancer dances without plot or strategy, without intimacy or interaction.
Super-8mm black and white film transferred and edited to single channel HD video with composed soundtrack
Cinematic screening: 1 mins 52 sec
Gallery | Site specific exhibition: continuous loop with sound

All you can see
running to the edge of a choreographed circle
expending the energy of youth
to keep up with hands that beat time.
Where breath is arrested, and beyond
lies the incessancy of a Tango

The dancer’s steps are led but the camera struggles to follow. In this indistinct, melancholy scene, even the forlorn, plaintive guitar plays a disjointed, aimless Tango which is abruptly disconnected.
Dancer: Tom Noone
Classical guitar: Torrin Williams
Location: London
Selected work on the theme of inner landscapes. Landscapes of mind and body, where the intangible is transformed into visceral, poetic narratives; diverse in form and content, both reflective and responsive, allowing humour and the absurd to interact with melancholy and disquiet; to shimmer briefly in your imagination.
